For fitting a DIY oil filters solvent trap.
Many barrel cleaning solvent traps are 5/8″x24 TPI threaded.
Many metal oil filters (Chrysler, Ford, Jeep, etc) are 3/4″x16 TPI UNF threaded.
Slightly less common are 13/16″x16 TPI threaded filters (AMC, GM, WIX).
The 5/8x24 TPI also known as 5/8 UNEF is the most common thread for .30 and larger calibre firearms.
The majority of USA .223 rifles are 1/2 UNEF (1/2×28 TPI), the closest European equivalent is M14x1 (M14x100 RH).
1/2-20 TPI = UNF ~ Unified National Fine thread.
1/2-28 TPI = UNEF ~ Unified National Extra Fine thread.
5/8-18 TPI = UNF ~ 18 threads per inch.
5/8-24 TPI = UNEF ~ 24 threads per inch.
A 3/4″ hex fitting should fit with a 19mm wrench and 13/16″ with a 20mm.
